MIT CEP Competition

The MIT Climate & Energy Prize competition seeks to move the world closer to net zero carbon emissions by empowering ambitious entrepreneurs to solve the world’s most difficult climate-related challenges.

We are the largest and longest-running competition for student-led climate & energy startups in the world. Since its founding in 2007, the MIT Climate & Energy Prize has received more than 850 applications, offered world-class mentoring to over 280 teams, and granted more than $3.5M in non-dilutive cash prizes. Teams compete for $100,000+ in prize money and have access to mentoring and other resources.

Feb 5th - 6th, 2024 – First round (virtual)
Early Feb 2024 – Mentorship matching
Mar 8th, 2024 – Boston Semi-final
Mar 15th, 2024 – London Semi-final
Apr 19th, 2024 – Grand Final in Cambridge, MA

Meet the MIT CEP 2023 Winners!

$100,000 Grand Prize: Seia Bio

Seia Bio is developing a coating for microbial fertilizers to protect them from processing and storage stress and therefore extending their shelf life and crop yield once applied in the field.

The Grand Prize check was awarded by our Gigawatt sponsors: McKinsey and Chevron

$30,000 Runner up: Arbon

Arbon is capturing CO2 with moisture swing adsorption technology, which only requires water, while cutting the energy cost of DAC by over 60%.

The Runner Up check was delivered by our Megawatt sponsors: EY Parthenon and AMGEN

$10,000 Third Place: Simon Cycle

Simon Cycle (MacroCycle Technologies) is upcycling plastic waste into virgin grade material, requiring 80% less energy in the production process.

The Third Place check was handed over by TEMASEK

MassCEC $5K Prize: Seia Bio

Seia Bio is developing a coating for microbial fertilizers to protect them from processing and storage stress and therefore extending their shelf life and crop yield once applied in the field.

The MassCEC prize was awarded to the best Massachusetts based team.

Ocean Innovation: PRONOE

PRONOE is developing an industrial system to turn industrial effluents into an alkaline flow to counter ocean acidification and allow carbon removal at the ocean’s surface

The Ocean Innovation Prize was awarded to the best ocean-based solution. Shout out to Ocean Visions for making this award possible!
